How do people feel, who shuffle music?

Granted, shuffling music is not much different from going linearly through music. An array of songs is always consumed one by one, whether you are a careless shuffler, a frequent skipper, a gapless album fanatic, a 400+ playlists junky, a constant rewinder, a grouping expert, or a singer-songwriter yourself. There are simply various modes of listening, of progressing through audio, of wading through emotional airwaves. The terms conflate in meaning and the question simply becomes: How do people feel, when listening to music?

The president: “You shuffle the Shuffle”

Surfacing on digg.com today.

Six years after the war and the ensuing occupation started, another prominent voice recalls:

Thank you for not listening to us and not taking us seriously, but understand that we hear you and will not forget your words.

Thank you, great leader George W. Bush.

It's dealtime

Amazon offers a free 1GB iPod shuffle with the purchase of a 32 GB iPod touch (via tuaw.com). Other retailers, who have been undercut by Apple's decision to drop the price of iPod shuffles by 30 US dollars, will surely offer similar bundle deals or put the 1GB model on sale. Look around and you'll find offers at 60% or less of $79, which was the price to afford in the 518 days before the recent announcement of a new 2GB model.

iPod shuffle: What's in 2GB? Really.

Do people prefer more to less? Well, would you buy an iPod shuffle with 1GB or with 2GB, if both were priced identically?

So — obviously, more is more. But why would anybody want 2GB, when the same iPod shuffle is available with 1GB at a lower price? At any lower price!

I would buy an iPod shuffle with 1GB, even if it were priced at just one dollar lower than a 2GB version. What would you do? You would probably call me stupid and chip in another lousy dollar for 1GB more.

New heavyweight 2GB iPod Shuffle for $69

There is not much more to say, but that it has been announced today. Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing: “The new 2GB model lets music lovers bring even more songs everywhere they go in the impossibly small iPod shuffle.”

There is something about the word impossibly that sounds convincing when Apple uses it.

Play the first song

If you bought a Shuffle and didn't mind looking through the manual because the buttons are fairly self-evident, you might have missed one of the additional navigational features. Pressing the play/pause button three times, while in continuous play mode, brings you to the start of the playlist. This is useful when you know what songs are at the start of your playlist and want to play from there right away without having to skip around.

Say you have synced your iPod shuffle with some recent podcasts (not yet listened to) and moved these to the start of your playlist in iTunes. You'll get there at the triple-press of a button. Almost as simple as sliced apple with cinnamon.

By the way, Apple announced today that the 100 millionth iPod has been sold.

iPod shuffle wins Design Week award

Design Week Awards 07

The Design Week Awards 2007 (an event by Design Week Magazine) honors the iPod shuffle for best consumer product design. The result (PDF) was presented by Sebastian Conran of Conran & Partners. He notes that "the Shuffle is a simple, beautifully executed concept...".

There are two things i noticed about the clip that could actually make the Shuffle grip better. First, the spring could be stronger to make the clip attach tighter. Second, the shape of the hooks could be as shown in the image below, interlocking. That way the Shuffle would maybe hold better (that doesn't mean it does not hold ok. It does).

Shufflesome unveils sticker designs for the new iPod shuffle

Here is a bag of sweets. Shufflesome pioneers a new line of sticker designs for the new iPod shuffle. The stickers will be available during the first week of December. You can pre-order now through the shop.

The cut-out of Shufflesome stickers is unmistakable by the frontside decal, which partially covers the button. The vinyl-material is flexible enough to "melt" onto the surface - almost like hot beeswax.

Photos (open in new window): ABSTRACT, DEVILESS, CHERRY BLOSSOMS.

Creating designs for the new iPod shuffle should be much easier now, since there are only two decals versus nine for the white stick-style iPod shuffle. Apart from being a great wearable iPod, I hope it's going to be the favorite music-player for artists to put their graphics on.

Shufflesome are Alexander Ebrahim Schneider and presently 32 contributing artists. Many thanks to Meaghan Kennedy at Orange Sparkle Ball, J-Paul Ioannidis at CABINE, and Massimiliano Panzironi at DolceQ for creating the first edition of 9 sticker designs.

Note to editors/journalists: For additional information and images for media, email to alex AT shufflesome DOT com or call at +49.221.1301828.

Note to companies: Visit corporate branding for ideas to get some shuffle going for you!
